National Aquatic Centre
If you walk around the National Sports Complex area at night, you will not miss National Aquatic Centre's brightly glowing dome. Highly integrated, the sports facility speaks of great architecture and design.
Featuring standards and meeting regulations of the world swimming governing body, International Swimming Federation (FINA), the National Aquatic Centre measures 28,000 sq. metres.
The entire centre is made up of one Olympic-size swimming pool, one diving pool and another training pool. It also has 4,000 permanent seats besides being able to accommodate 2,000 temporary seating.
There are two fully air conditioned functional areas above the grandstand. Segregated on two levels and in two separate wings, the north wing is dedicated for VIPs, media personnel and competition management. On the other hand, the south wing attends to participants and administration.
As you take your seat, you will be mesmerized with the surroundings. Neatly placed pools under a dramatic structure clearly shows that the centre was built based on very fine planning and construction.
Another interesting watch is the hibiscus shaped lightweight membrane roof, a certain treat to your eyes. Suspended from a giant steel mast, the roof with a floating effect sends out a sapphire glow at night as the internal lighting pass through it.
Using floats above the swimming pools, the National Aquatic Centre makes a mystical venue for staging mini concerts, fashion shows and product launches.
TV broadcasting, sound and lighting systems are made easy by a number of catwalks suspended from the roof. In addition, underwater viewing panels at each competition and diving pool provides better video coverage.
Results and timing are generated through 9m x 6m alpha-numeric scoreboard while lighting is provided by a set of adjustable floodlights with illumination level up to 1,500 lux.
Open to public, one can use the pools for training or to conduct classes provided the rules and regulations of the centre is observed.
